Into the Wild: An Immersive Virtual Adventure

Abstract Into the Wild is a mixed reality experience taking place in Singapore’s ArtScience Museum. Visitors can freely explore an immersive exhibit in which the entire museum transforms into a virtual rainforest, thanks to Tango. The app tracks motion and understands depth, distance travelled and objects inside the museum-turned-rainforest. The rainforest is inhabited by endangered animals people can interact with to learn about the dangers they face from human impact. Into the Wild becomes a reality when the virtual tree that people can plant as a symbolic act becomes a real tree in Sumatra donated by the project’s sponsors. Keywords Mixed...

“Adventure Soil Life” – A virtual journey through an unknown world

Abstract Few people are aware that there are more organisms living within a cube metre of soil than man on earth. With the virtual reality (VR) experience “Adventure soil life”, the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History Görlitz brings visitors closer to the biodiversity underneath their feet; this approach reflects the research focus of the museum: soil organisms. Shrunk to the size of a woodlouse, they explore the hidden world and get an almost realistic impression of the habitats and their inhabitants. The VR experience has been created as part of the Senckenberg activities within the pilot project “museum4punkt0 –...

The 4D-CH Calw Project

Abstract The 4D -Cultural Heritage Project takes advance of Imagery from the wild (Internet) and existing repositories to reconstruct 3D Models of Monuments, Places and Landscapes. This method  however can not always reproduce a complete dataset of an object since the obliged views are depending on the prominent positions of the recording. We would like to present two different approaches to a work-flow which overcomes this issue through a semi – automated reconstruction  as well as the use of simulation with a grammar based modelling. The Roman Maastricht VR Project

Abstract In contrast to excavated and preserved Cultural Heritage Sites in the open Landscape, City -Archaeology faces the difficulty to mediate to the public about the archaeological remains due to the absence of cohesive information given by the destructive nature of urban settlement activity causing the remains to stay indiscernible. Our focus in this paper is to explain the entire production process from data acquisition, Capturing and Digitization of existing remains, pre and post -processing of captured datasets, advanced 3D modelling techniques as well as the concept of storytelling to the resulting Digital Cultural Heritage Application and its outreach....
