Female anthropomorphic statuette

Female anthropomorphic statuette discovered at Ştefănesti-Stânca Doamnei, Botoşani County, Romania, in 1974. Cucuteni Culture, phase B. Registered at the Botoşani County Museum. The statuette is preserved almost entirely, having the sole and the body. The head is missing from ancient times. Its position is vertical. The fabric is of good quality, it has been burned oxidizing, it has brick color. The item is broken above the breasts, in the shoulder area. The body is flattened, the breasts are small, barely sketched through two oval swellings. The waist is narrow. The hips are over-sized and each has a transverse perforation. The abdomen is slightly swollen (showing a possible pregnancy) with the umbilicus marked by a semi-perforation that does not reach beyond the abdominal wall. Immediately below the waist, there is a very shallow incision, which is intended to delimit the hips from the body of the statue. The buttocks are oversized and they were made by deliberately adding material after modeling the statuette. The lower part has the appearance of a “bell” dress, which narrows towards the bottom, and then opens slightly at the base. Both at the front and the back the legs are marked through an incised line, very slightly deepened into the fabric.
