All the world’s on stage with virtual reality goggles

Virtual reality headsets could become the “opera glasses” of the 21st century, allowing gig-goers at the back of the crowd to transport themselves to the front row, or even the stage, according to music industry experts.

Music fans who own virtual reality (VR) headsets already have the chance to experience gigs close-up without leaving their sofas. Acts including Coldplay and Stevie Wonder have recently performed to audiences around the world who were virtually teleported to the best vantage points.

In September gigs that cost £60-£100 on the door are free to watch live in VR. The entire Global Citizen Festival was broadcast live from Central Park in New York. Sponsorship by a bank meant the VR footage was free for owners of Gear VR headsets…
